President Atwater Announces Upcoming Medical Leave

President Tony Atwater has announced he will be on medical leave most of January 2010 for prostate cancer treatment and recovery. Provost Gerald Intemann will serve as acting president January 7–29.

Council of Trustees Public Meeting Set for December 18

The Council of Trustees will hold a public meeting Friday, December 18, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. in Gorell Recital Hall. Resolutions commending ROTC cadet Erik Lloyd and retiring deans Valarie Trimarchi and Phil Zorich will be acted upon.

PASSHE Chancellor Cavanaugh to Take Part in Forum with Faculty, Staff

John Cavanaugh, chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, will be on campus Friday, December 4, 2009, for an open forum with faculty and staff in Gealy W. Wallwork Hall from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. He met informally with employees at a holiday open house Thursday.

John Cavanaugh, chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE), will attend the 2009 Holiday Open House on Thursday, December 3, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Sutton Hall’s Blue Room. All attendees will have an opportunity to meet him.

Family Weekend a Time to Honor Veterans, Active Military Personnel

This weekend, hundreds of families will be on campus for our annual Family Weekend celebration. The celebration also honors our veterans and active duty military personnel, with all members and former members of the military admitted free to the football game.

President Offers Condolences in Death of Student Williams

Shawn Williams, 21, of Lucernemines (near Homer City), a student in the College of Health and Human Services, died Sunday, October 18, 2009. The president shares his concern and sympathy for Shawn’s friends and family.

State Senate Confirms Mack's Appointment to PASSHE Board of Governors

The state Senate has confirmed the appointment of Jonathan B. Mack to the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education’s Board of Governors, according to a press release from PASSHE. Mack is a member of IUP’s Council of Trustees.

University Relations Vice President Candidate Featured in Open Forum October 21

The Office of the President reports that flags at state facilities, including IUP, have been lowered to half staff to honor the memory of Senator Ted Kennedy.

Flags at Half Staff in Memory of Berks County Soldier

At the direction of Governor Edward G. Rendell, all U.S. and Pennsylvania flags will be lowered to half staff in the Capitol Complex and across the Commonwealth to honor the memory of Corporal Jonathan M. Walls of Berks County.

President Offers Condolences on Communications Media Student Deaths

IUP has been notified of two student deaths: Matthew P. Laird, a junior from Pittsburgh, on July 4, 2009, and Cory Michael Denlinger, a sophomore from Conestoga, on July 10. Both were Communications Media majors.

President Offers Condolences on Death of Student

President Tony Atwater offers condolences on the untimely death of IUP freshman Brenton Croll, 18, Roaring Springs, a nursing major, who died March 18, 2009, in a friend’s on-campus residence hall room. The Indiana County coroner is working to determine the cause of death.
