Tony Atwater, IUP president, has informed the IUP community that David L. Johnson, a member of the Council of Trustees, died Sunday evening, February 22, 2009.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Johnson lived in Havertown with his wife, Audrey. He served on the Council of Trustees since January 1980 and was liaison to the Office of Public Policy of the Association of Governing Boards.

He held degrees from both IUP and New York University. He was vice president and corporate secretary of Pennsylvania Manufacturers Corporation in Philadelphia, retiring in July 1992 after thirty-eight years of service. He was a retired member of the board of directors of First Commonwealth Financial Corporation and NBOC Bank, Indiana.

“I know that you join me in offering our thoughts and prayers to Mr. Johnson's family at this difficult time,” Atwater wrote in his message. Information about the funeral arrangements will be shared as it is confirmed.
