I ask that you join me for a service of remembrance and honor for the late David L. Johnson on Thursday, April 30, at 10:00 a.m. in Gorell Recital Hall, located on the second floor of Sutton Hall. Mr. Johnson passed away in February.

A 1953 education graduate of IUP, Mr. Johnson served as a member of the Council of Trustees from January 1980 until the time of his passing, and as liaison to the Office of Public Policy of the Association of Governing Boards.

Mr. Johnson was instrumental in the establishment and continued growth of the IUP Department of Safety Sciences. While a student at IUP, he was a member of the IUP track and field team and Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.

Mr. Johnson was vice president and corporate secretary of Pennsylvania Manufacturers Corporation in Philadelphia, retiring in July 1992 after 39 years of service. He was a retired member of the board of directors of First Commonwealth Financial Corporation and NBOC Bank, of Indiana.

In 2000, Mr. Johnson was honored with the State System of Higher Education's Eberly Award for Philanthropy and Volunteerism. This award followed the 1987 presentation of the IUP Distinguished Alumni Award.

I look forward to your attendance.

Tony Atwater, Ph.D.
