All IUP graduates with no academic or financial holds on their student record will receive one diploma per degree earned. Diplomas are issued to graduates after the department completes the degree conferral process (awarding of a degree once it is determined a student has met all degree requirements for graduation). It typically takes two to six weeks for the degree conferral process; then, diplomas are mailed.

Original Paper Diploma

Initial diplomas are issued at no cost to students. Diplomas are not printed on-site and are mailed via USPS first class with no tracking available. Recent graduates, please note it may take two to eight weeks for your degree to be awarded, and then shipping will occur four weeks after the degree has been awarded by your college.

To change your diploma mailing address:

  • Changing any address through MyIUP does not change your diploma mailing address. Diploma address changes are made through the Graduation Application form.
  • Addresses can be updated in the system but not linked with your diploma mailing address by using MyIUP.

What appears on an IUP diploma:

An IUP diploma is customized to include a student's legal or preferred first name, legal last name, optional middle name or initial, suffix (e.g., Jr, II, III, etc.), degree earned (e.g., Bachelor of Arts, Master of Science, Applied Associate of Art), graduation date, and academic honors if eligible for undergraduate graduates only.

Diploma Delivery:

IUP has four graduation dates per year: May, August, December, and January. Diplomas are mailed approximately two to eight weeks after the actual graduation date because grades from a student's final semester must be evaluated by the student's assistant dean or department to assure that all degree requirements and financial obligations have been met.

Delivery Method International Only:

Starting May 2020, all international student diplomas will be mailed to the IUP Office of International Education for distribution. Once the diplomas arrive at the OIE, students will be emailed.

Students will then select

  1. To pick up the diploma in person from the OIE (free); or
  2. To pay for express mail to an international address. Please direct questions to intl-education@iup.edu.

Delivery Method US Standard Mail:

  • Diplomas are mailed in a cardboard mailing envelope that does not include a signature on the outside flap.
  • Tracking information is not provided.
  • Please understand that since diplomas are processed and mailed by a third-party vendor, neither IUP, nor the Registrar’s Office can accept or assume responsibility for diplomas that were not delivered or were not delivered in a timely manner by US Postal Service, FedEx, or any other mail carrier
