An official transcript is the university's certified statement of your academic record.

The official paper transcript is printed on security-sensitive paper and contains the university seal and signature of the university registrar. The official electronic transcript is a PDF secured by a digital certificate which is displayed at the top of the transcript along with a blue ribbon.

All credit and clock hour courses are transcribed.

Credit: Undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree
Clock Hour: American Language Institute, Academy of Culinary Arts, Criminal Justice Training Program, and Center for Emergency Services Training (paramedic)

In accordance with FERPA guidelines, we will not release an official transcript without your signed release.

Before You Order:

Important Information

  • If you attended IUP prior to 1970, an electronic transcript will not be available.

  • After receipt of the email notification, the electronic transcript must be retrieved by the recipient within 30 days using the transcript link and access code.

  • Prior to submitting an order for an electronic transcript, please verify that the recipient can accept electronic PDF transcripts from the National Student Clearinghouse. If a paper transcript is needed instead, a new order will need to be placed.

  • To ensure authenticity, official transcripts must be sent directly to the recipient (i.e., employer, university, agency). Official transcripts sent to the student first and then re-sent via email or mail to a recipient may no longer be deemed official by the recipient. In this case, a new order must be placed.

  • Transcripts will not be processed for those with holds placed on their account for financial or other obligations to the university. Students may check for holds on MyIUP. You will be notified of any holds during the ordering process as well.

  • Students may request that we delay processing your transcript order until final grades are posted for the current semester or until your degree is officially awarded. Please see important information regarding when the transcript will process.

  • Additional documentation may be uploaded and attached to accompany your transcript such as completed forms, course transfer forms, certifications, cover letters, résumés, etc. We do not complete forms that may be attached to your transcript order. If uploading an attachment to your order, please use a PDF document (.pdf) when possible.

Browser Compatibility

Our National Student Clearinghouse ordering service is designed and tested to work best with the most current versions of the major desktop/laptop web browsers (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Apple Safari). While you still can access the transcript ordering application using other browsers and versions, you may notice that certain functions and displays do not run the way they were intended when using other browsers or mobile devices. If you are using a preferred browser and still experiencing issues within the ordering system, clear the cache/browsing history from all internet browsers.

Cost and Processing

Official paper and electronic academic transcripts are ordered and processed through the National Student Clearinghouse. The cost is $10.00 per transcript set plus shipping and handling that is applied to mailed orders. A transcript set includes all levels of coursework including undergraduate, graduate, non-degree, and clock hour if one or more courses have been completed at any of these levels. All transcripts within the set must be sent to the same address at the same time.

Official Academic Transcript orders may take a processing time of three to five business days to ensure the accuracy of the academic record prior to sending. Orders requiring more detailed review may take longer than three to five business days to process. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we actively review requests in the order that we receive them.

Situations that Prevent Official Transcript Processing

  • Financial holds
  • Insufficient or inaccurate identification information that does not match our records
  • An invalid recipient email address provided for an electronic delivery request
  • An invalid or insufficient mailing address provided for a paper delivery request
  • Request that does not comply with FERPA regulations

When Will My Transcript Process?

Please read this section carefully before ordering an official transcript. If you have questions, contact the Registrar’s Office before placing the order.

In the “Processing Details” section of the ordering process, you will be asked to choose which transcript you want to have sent.

Former students and graduates who are not currently enrolled should always choose “Current Transcript: Process as is.” The transcript will process immediately.

 processing details

The After Degree is Awarded option is only for students that have applied for and are pending graduation in the current term. The system will hold your transcript until final graduation processing for the current term is complete. If you choose this option, your transcript will send once your degree has been officially awarded, which is about two to six weeks after the end of the term.

The After Grades Are Posted option is for current students and will hold your transcript until final grade reporting has been completed at the end of the current term. This option also ensures that your transcript will include the award notation for Dean's List if you qualify.

If you are a current student or have just graduated and choose "Current Transcript - Process as is," your transcript will process immediately. This means that it is possible to order your transcript too early, and your transcript could be sent with important information missing. Your grades, Dean's List notation, and degree title and date take time to add to the transcript after the end of the semester.

If you are a current student or recent graduate, you can review your unofficial transcript on MyIUP before you place your order. If your degree has been awarded, you will see the degree title and degree award date near the top of your transcript.

If you see what you need on your unofficial transcript, you can choose "Current Transcript – Process as is" when you request your transcript. Do not select “After Degree is Awarded” or “After Grades are Awarded.”

Order Status

You can check the status of your order from the National Student Clearinghouse Transcript Order Status Application.

  1. In the sign-in box, enter your transcript order number and the email address you used to place the order, then click “View Status.” The confirmation email you received when you submitted your request contains your transcript order number.

  2. The current status of your order, with date and timestamp, will display on the main Order Summary screen for each recipient.

  3. To see the full order history for each recipient, select the “View Details” button to the right of the current status.

  4. To get a receipt, select the “View Order Confirmation” link under your order number.

  5. To track another order status, select the “Back To Sign In” button at the bottom of the page.

Delivery Methods:

Electronically Emailed

IUP offers a secure PDF option for the delivery of official transcripts. This version of the official transcript presents the same information and in the same format as on the official paper transcript.

PDF delivered transcripts are secured by a digital certificate. This certificate ensures the recipient that the transcript is original and official and has been prepared and delivered by the Office of the University Registrar, Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

To facilitate this method of delivery, the requestor must ensure the following:

  1. Verify that the recipient is willing to receive your transcript as a PDF document from the National Student Clearinghouse.
  2. Recipients must have the latest version of Adobe Reader installed to download and open the transcript.
  3. You must provide a valid email address for yourself and the recipient.
    • Email notification will be sent to the requestor and recipient.
    • After receipt of the email notification, the transcript must be retrieved within 30 days via the transcript link and access code.

Electronic File Exchange

Electronic Exchange is a file-sharing agreement IUP has with many other colleges and universities. The transcript is delivered to the secure FTP drive in the admissions office of the receiving institution. If Electronic Exchange is an available method, you will not be prompted to enter an email address for the receiving institution. There will be a notation within the ordering service that your electronic transcript will be sent via Electronic Exchange.
