Civil leave may be used for suboenaed court appearances, including:
- Non-voluntary calls for jury duty
- Subpoenaed as a witness (and not a party) in a civil or criminal court proceeding
- Subpoenaed as a witness or a party to an unemployment hearing or a workers' compensation hearing
- Subpoenaed as a witness for a State Civil Service Commission hearing, Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission hearing, State Employees' Retirement System hearing, or State Ethics Commission hearing
Evidence of the required court attendance in the form of a subpoena or other written notification must be provided to the employee's supervisor to forward to the Office of Human Resources.
Civil leave may also be granted to an employee who performs duties related to:
- firefighting duties
- emergency medical technician
- civil air patrol activities
- emergency management rescue work during a fire, flood, hurricane, or other disaster
- disaster relief work as a certified Red Cross disaster relief volunteer during a state of emergency declared by the governor.
A written statement certifying the employee's activities during the absence must be provided to the employee's supervisor to forward to the Office of Human Resources.
