IUP Sculpture Professors to Stage Participatory Outdoor Art Installation Event on May 2

Two Art and Design professors and art students will stage a public art installation project on May 2. “Traffic Island Oasis” will temporarily transform the traffic island on Oakland Avenue (across from the IUP Oak Grove) into an island oasis. The public is invited to tour the island from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. to experience an island getaway without leaving Indiana.

Pandemic-inspired Artwork by Massey Aquired by Smithsonian

“Touch in the Time of Corona,” an artwork by Associate Professor Sharon Massey, was recently acquired by the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Massey was inspired to make this piece in summer 2020 after attending a small funeral for her husband’s grandmother at the height of the first wave of the pandemic.

Massey and Derry Announce Grand Opening of Common Goods

Common Goods is a pop-up store featuring laser-cut paper packages of items we need but cannot buy, like empathy, security and rainbows. The packages were designed by students in Sharon Massey and Sean Derry’s 3D Design classes. Each package is for sale, and all proceeds go toward the IUP Student Assistance Fund.

The Innovators: Making Art While Serving

Tyler Stanton is a maker. He's an MFA candidate at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Carpentry Masonry Specialist in the 377th Army Corp of Engineers. Recently, he has blended these two aspects of his life by creating the Load-carrying Band-saw Tool Kit, “L.B.T.K.,” a backpack tool kit for soldiers, complete with a band-saw and other tools to create artwork from materials found on location.

The Sutton Benchoriginated from an idea from Blane Dessy, a 1973 English graduate of IUP. Dessy,while not a fine arts graduate, became interested in the university’s “Harvest-to-Use”program in IUP’s Wood Center (using trees that come down on campus for student woodworkingprojects). Art Students Collaborate with Indiana Library

IUP painting students have painted chairs for Indiana Library’s Evening in the Stacks Fundraiser. Inspired by children’s books, the chairs will be auctioned off in a silent auction through the month of November.
