Common Goods, the annual pop-up store featuring laser-cut paper packages for things we value but can’t purchase, like empathy, rest, or rainbows, returns this year on Thursday, November 13, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the former Subway location in Jane Leonard Hall. All proceeds from the store will benefit the IUP Food Pantry and Help Center.

The paper packages are designed and made by students in ART 113 3D Design and Digital Fabrication and IDEA 113 Socially Engaged Making. They created paper prototypes of packages to represent a concept they value, then learned to use CAD software and the laser cutters in STEAMSHOP to produce multiples of their design. Each package is for sale, and the cost is “pay what you can, pay what you wish.”

This year, the store is accepting cash, credit, or non-perishable food donations as payment. All proceeds from the sales will be donated to the IUP Food Pantry and Help Center, which is located on the lower level of Wallwork Hall.

Plan to visit Common Goods and see how Art and Design professors Sharon Massey and Sean Derry transform the old Subway location into a temporary student showcase and pop-up store. Meet the students who designed the packages and support the IUP Food Pantry and Help Center.
