On November 30, 2020, Bryan Moore ’07 gave a Zoom presentation to Daniel Lawson’s Finance Seminar class. Lawson’s class provides senior finance students with a cumulative learning experience to start their finance career. IUP Students Join Faculty and Staff for Virtual Pennsylvania Conference for Women 2020

On Wednesday, November 11, 2020, 28 students, faculty, staff, and managers from IUP participated in the 2020 Pennsylvania Conference for Women. This is the largest women’s conference in the state. It is a nonprofit, non-partisan, one-day professional and personal development event for women.

Clorox and Walmart Professionals Address Supply Chain Class

Students in the Supply Chain Management class taught by Prashanth Bharadwaj analyze comprehensive and in-depth cases of many global companies such as McDonald’s, Boeing, Amazon, and Nike. But the learning that takes place can be at a much higher level when seasoned professionals from Walmart and Clorox address the students about supply chain issues that they confront as well as their solutions for that.

Student Accounting Association Makes Donation to IUP Food Pantry

On November 4, 2020, the IUP Student Accounting Association community service chair, Samantha Weaver, and vice president Robert Kanick went grocery shopping, spending $541.02 on 256 nonperishable food items and toiletries which were donated to the IUP Food Pantry and Help Center.

Parker Koons has lived his entire life in Indiana and has experienced a lot of IUP culture through his siblings and hometown before he even decided he was going to attend IUP. Parker attended Indiana Senior High and during his junior year started looking into and applying to colleges.

Students manage Foundation for IUP assets of more than 1.5 million dollars in US equities. SMIP provides an opportunity for students to improve their skills sets in the areas of financial services or a multitude of business fields.

Small Business Development Center Increases its Ability to Help Firms Address Growth Issues

Tony Palamone, Small Business Development Center director, recently received a certificate of completion for the Master Business Course in Scaling Up, from the Growth Institute. This course focuses on scaling businesses from moderate sales levels to high growth sales levels.

Business Recovery and Resilience Series Launching September 30

The IUP Small Business Development Center is hosting a series of community dialogues to discuss the problems businesses are experiencing. The Business Recovery and Resilience Series will be monthly dialogues that will challenge business owners to rethink many of the assumptions that require re-examination in the post- or co-COVID-19 environment.

Alumni from PNC Speak to Student Accounting Association

On August 27, 2020, the SAA hosted its first meeting of the fall semester virtually via Zoom. Guest speakers from PNC gave students advice and informed them of the different functional areas of employment at PNC. The speakers included Brady Wise ’95, Samantha Frye ’19, and Matt DeCesare ’20.

During summer 2020, the Center for Leadership and Academic Student Support Office (CLASS), directed by Terry Appolonia, within the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology, conducted virtual informative meetings with new, incoming business students.

Eberly Business Students Brininger and Kostelnik Win Pittsburgh Passport's Case Competition

Eberly senior business students Randall Brininger and Emily Kostelnik participated in Pittsburgh Passport’s annual Case Competition, winning first place in the Back to School category. Randall and Emily partnered with two students from Carnegie Mellon University and Robert Morris University, pitching an all-virtual platform where students can live the college experience while staying safe in their homes.

Macey was born and raised in Indiana, Pennsylvania. IUP Business School Initial Self-Evaluation Report for AACSB Accounting Accreditation Approved by AACSB

On April 3, 2020, the IUP Eberly College of Business and Information Technology received word that the AACSB Accounting Accreditation Committee voted to accept Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Initial Self Evaluation Report and invited the school to apply for an initial accounting on-site review.

Senior Kumetis Selected for 2020 Women's Leadership Award

The Eberly College was a sponsor for the IUP President’s Commission on the Status of Women and Women’s and Gender Studies program this year to recognize women for their outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence, and community contributions on and off campus. This year’s winner from the business school was Kelly Kumetis, a senior accounting major.

Procurement Technical Assistance Center and COVID-19: How it Relates to Government Contractors

The IUP Procurement Technical Assistance Program was established to expand the number of business capable of participating in government contracts. Under the program, the IUP PTAC helps businesses pursue and perform under contracts with the Department of Defense, other federal agencies, state and local governments, and government prime contractors.

Angelina Manning is an active member of Alpha Gamma Delta here on campus and is a finance major in Eberly. “I chose to attend IUP because, when I went on my first tour, the campus felt like home. IUP was one of my top choices to attend because it’s business school. I enjoyed business classes throughout high school, and when I heard what Eberly College of Business had to offer, I was sold,” explained Manning.

IUP Hosts 2020 Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge

Sixty-five students from four regional high schools attended the annual Western Pennsylvania Junior Achievement Titan Business Challenge at the IUP Eberly College of Business and Information Technology on March 10, 2020.

SBI Live: Students Solving Real-World Business Problems

The Small Business Institute class allows motivated undergraduate and MBA students to team up and work with real clients on real consulting engagements. Groups of students with specific skills and interests work in teams with the client’s organization under the supervision of two experienced faculty members, Stephen Osborne and Joette Wisnieski.

Polley Speaks in Finance Seminar Class

On February 24, 2020 Malcolm Polley presented to Daniel Lawson’s Finance Seminar FIN 422 class. Polley is currently the president and chief investment officer at Stewart Capital Advisors, an institutional investment manager that is a wholly owned subsidiary of S&T Bank. He also is an adjunct professor for the Eberly College of Business.

On February 17, 2020, Kirsten Flanagan, a 1994 IUP accounting alumnus who specializes in the areas of forensic, litigation, and valuation services, spoke to 61 students at the second Student Accounting Association meeting of the spring semester.

This week we feature PA native, William Gebhart. “Geb” was born and raised in Saxonburg, PA, a small town about 50 miles outside of Indiana. Tyler Vicari is a first-year student in the MBA program in Eberly. He completed his undergraduate degree in sports administration here at IUP as well. Tyler cites his business minor as a huge influencer on his decision to return for a graduate program. “I enjoyed my time in the kinesiology department, but the moments that I truly enjoyed the most were here in Eberly.”
