This is part of #EberlyDoesSports, a series from the IUP Eberly College of Business and Information Technology that focuses on business majors who play team sports, club sports, or are involved in sports at a community or individual level.
David Baker is a senior at IUP studying finance in the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology. David is also involved with the Men's Rugby team.
After talking with David, we found out some more about him. He chose to attend IUP in order to earn his bachelor's degree and learn more about the financial aspects in his chosen career path. David thought Eberly was the place for him.
David is from outside of Philadelphia in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. He explained that he found IUP because of his father, who is actually an IUP alumnus. His father had mentioned to him that IUP was a great school and had fantastic opportunities and a great rugby team.
David explained, "I've learned how to communicate with leaders of the finance industry and have been able to meet many successful alumni of IUP. I appreciate the opportunities that IUP has provided me to network with individuals from a wide variety of fields and career paths."
Rugby has been a large part of his high school and college career. He has been playing rugby since his sophomore year of high school and playing for IUP the past four years consecutively. He has been a leader of the team on and off the field. He is also an infantry solider in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
"Being on a team is much like the business world. Learning to communicate through the stress and capabilities of a diverse group of individuals in order to work as a team is vital in the business world."
Some of David's core values are that, "I believe that anything can be achieved to the highest level through communication and teamwork, because discussing negative and positive outcomes as a group provides the learning and quality in order to produce the best possible product."
