Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Indiana County Highway Safety Project and the IUP Public Health Program in the Department of Allied and Public Health are sponsoring a car seat “take back” on April 3 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at IUP’s Zink Hall parking lot. The event is designed to collect unsafe car seats.

For the past two summers, artist Sean Derry has lived on the south side of Kachemak Bay while carefully deconstructing a homesteading cabin dating from Alaska’s statehood. Sean’s exhibition “From Always Until Now” opened at Bunnell Street Arts Center on March 7 and will remain on display until April 2.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s English Graduate Organization will offer its 2025 Conference, “Landscapes of Language and Literature,” on March 21 and 22. The conference will be offered both in person in IUP’s Sprowls Hall and via Zoom. It is free and open to the community.

The IUP Physics and Pre-Engineering Clubs will host the annual Physics Olympics on April 4, providing local high school students with a hands-on competition featuring physics challenges, faculty interactions, and campus lab tours—continuing a tradition that has promoted STEM education since 1975!
Matt Vetter, with co-authors Jialei Jiang and Zachary McDowell, recently published an article titled “An Endangered Species: How LLMs Threaten Wikipedia’s Sustainability” in the journal AI & Society.
The Center is funding the distribution of the state-wide research study “Understanding Physician Retention in Rural Pennsylvania: A Collaborative Research Study by the Center for Rural Pennsylvania, IUP, and AHEC (Pennsylvania Area Health Education Center)” to more than 6,500 physicians in rural practices in the Commonwealth.
Molly Patterson, Binghamton University, will present a seminar on the “Catchment Sensitivities of the West and East Antarctic Ice Sheets to Orbital Forcing During the Mid- to Late Pliocene” at the Anthropology, Geospatial and Earth Sciences Seminar on Friday, March 28, in Kopchick 102 from 11:15 to 12:15.
Indiana University of Pennsylvania plans to honor Lt. Col. Barry D. Gasdek, US Army retired, a 1964 graduate and 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, with the award of a Doctor of Public Service honorary degree at its May 10 commencement ceremonies.
IUP’s College of Health Sciences is sponsoring the first “Run for the Health of It” 5K race on April 5. The event, planned to be held annually, will raise funds to directly support students in the IUP College of Health Sciences programs, with a different fundraising focus each year.
IUP 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient Col. Stephen G. Abel, US Army (retired), is continuing a 29-year tradition of supporting IUP students by gifting $32,500 to IUP; to date, he has provided more than $200,000 in financial support to IUP.

IUP theater and English education alumna Kaitlyn Cramer ’17 credits theater faculty encouragement for creative risk-taking that launched her into an international career. CanvasRebel, an online storytelling and interview platform, recently featured Cramer as one of the independent artists sharing stories and insights on their field.

On February 15, 2025, the IUP Hackathon Team participated in the Nation Center of Academic Excellence – Northeast Cyber Competition. The team secured a first-place finish in the CTF section and ninth place overall against 12 other cyber teams from US colleges and universities.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Cejka Planetarium in John J. and Char Kopchick Hall will present three free programs during the spring semester: “Back to Venus” on March 6, Telescope Display and Full Moon Star Party on April 12, and “Centennial of the Planetarium!” on May 7.
Today, Indiana University of Pennsylvania Conemaugh Nason Medical Center formalized a clinical training affiliation agreement for students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s proposed college of osteopathic medicine.
Classical music once again meets rock music when Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s String Ensemble, directed by Kaleigh Accord, collaborates with the local rock band, Somebody to Love, for a concert entitled, “Classic Meets Rock 2.” Special guests will be the University Chorus directed by Joseph Stuligross. Also performing will be IUP students Aleksander Maschmidt and Braxton Beaulieu as well as Indiana's own Chuck Olson, from The Six. Music from the Rolling Stones, Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John and many more will be featured in the concert, which will take place on Tuesday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Fisher Auditorium on the campus of IUP.
