IT Services is sharing an overview of significant IT-related updates and changes that were implemented during the summer break.

As you are aware, there have been many, and we kindly request your patience as we navigate the start of the semester. Rest assured, we will diligently address any outstanding issues promptly as they are reported.

🔄OneSIS Transition Nears Completion

  • All PASSHE schools are now live on the OneSIS Banner platform, with full module support for general student, accounts receivable, and financial aid. Reminder that IUP is sharing a Banner instance with nine of the PASSHE schools.
  • All IUP students and faculty are now fully on OneSIS. Full communication plans are underway to help communicate all relevant information to all constituents. OneSIS Wednesdays will continue through the fall during the common hour.
  • More than 60 of the nearly 80 third-party integrations to OneSIS are complete.
  • Most functionality is very similar to the previous Banner version.
  • Shutdown plans are underway for the legacy on-prem Banner (with minor exceptions for functional areas requiring access).
  • The https://www.iup.edu/banner/iup-only/onesis/index.html website will continue to be the site for shared information.

📝Remark Test Grading Platform Replaces Bubble Sheet Scoring (Reminder)

  • The legacy bubble sheet test scoring system has been officially retired following spring 2025 finals. The Remark Test Grading Platform is now the sole test scoring solution available to faculty.
  • Remark offers a cloud-based, user-friendly interface that integrates directly with D2L. Faculty can sync rosters, import test templates, design assessments, print score sheets, and scan/upload completed tests for automated grading.
  • For more information, visit Test Scoring Services.
  • Please do not use any legacy test scoring sheets for testing. IT Services will no longer be able score any of those legacy score sheets. If you happen to have them in your areas, please recycle them.

🆕SoftDocs Forms and Workflow Solution Implementation (replacing iforms)

  • SoftDocs has officially replaced the legacy iForms and some URSA workflow systems as part of the OneSIS modernization initiative.
  • The new solution includes the full offering of electronic forms, workflow automation, and document management capabilities that integrate with Banner and other university systems.
  • SoftDocs will serve as the single platform for all form-related activity, replacing DocuSign, MS Forms, and paper-based processes. This transition supports a more unified and secure document repository for both SIS and non-SIS content.
  • Initial implementations are focused on high-priority forms such as Change of Major/Minor, Grade Changes, Preferred First Name, and Faculty Promotion. Additional forms will be rolled out in phases.
  • Manual processing may be required temporarily due to the volume of forms being transitioned. Faculty and staff are encouraged to resolve any open iForms items in their queues ASAP before they are shut down.
  • For updates and form status, visit the OneSIS Status Page, under OneSIS Status for Core Banner and Other Tools, and then Jump To SoftDocs. Completed (in production), In Progress (development underway), and Pending (in the queue) are the statuses.

📁Project Directory Service (P: Drive) Decommissioned

  • The legacy Project Directory Service (PDS), commonly referred to as the P: drive, has been officially decommissioned as part of IUP’s modernization efforts.
  • All collaborative file storage and sharing previously handled through the P: drive will now be supported via the D2L Microsoft Teams Connector.
  • This integration allows faculty and staff to create a Microsoft Teams space directly from their D2L course, enabling real-time collaboration, file sharing, and communication within a secure cloud environment.
  • Instructors can find the Microsoft Teams widget in their D2L course and select Create Course Team, then check the box for Automatically add instructors to all channels, then select Create course Team. The instructor will be notified in the Teams application when the Teams space is setup. When clicked on, the instructor will need to Activate the team to give students access.
  • IT Services will creating documentation on this new feature that is integrated into D2L.

📬D2L Messaging Updates: Internal Mail Replaced by Send Only Mail and CSEL Retired

  • As part of the OneSIS integration, the legacy internal mail feature within D2L is no longer available as an option and has been replaced by the new D2L Send Only Mail functionality.
  • Send Only Mail allows instructors to send messages to students, and/or to a subset of students in their class.
  • This change also marks the retirement of the Course Section Email List (CSEL) service, which previously supported bulk messaging to course sections. All such communications should now be handled via Send Only Mail within D2L.
  • To use Send Only Mail in D2L, access the classlist and select Email Classlist to email the entire class. In addition, while viewing the classlist, one can also select a subset of students and click on the Email icon to email only those select students.
  • IT Services will provide further documentation and place it on the IT Support Center website soon.

🛡️Security Operations Center (SOC) Services and Quarantine Message Updates

  • IUP has officially onboarded with a third-party Security Operations Center (SOC), enhancing our cybersecurity posture through 24/7 monitoring, alert tuning, and incident response capabilities.
  • The SOC implementation included a comprehensive assessment of Microsoft security configurations.
  • As part of this rollout, email quarantine notifications have been updated. Users will now receive standardized alerts when messages are flagged. These alerts include links to the Microsoft Security portal, where users can release or report messages. Here is more information about quarantined messages.
  • Please continue to use the Phish Alert Button (PAB) anytime you see suspicious messages.

💻Windows 11 Upgrades: Student Labs, Faculty Devices, and Administrative Areas

  • Over the summer, IUP underwent a significant refresh of its Student Lab PCs. Key instructional spaces underwent full lab rebuilds, with all computers upgraded to Windows 11. Classroom computers also received a major refresh, featuring numerous new PCs and Windows 11 upgrades. While some areas may not receive the refresh before the fall start, they will be upgraded during the semester.
  • These upgrades ensure compatibility with the latest academic software and provide improved performance and security for students.
  • In parallel, faculty PC replacements continue on a rolling basis, with Windows 11 now the standard operating system for all new devices.
  • We will continue collaborating with the remaining academic and administrative departments to ensure compliance with Windows 11 upgrades throughout the fall semester. This will be necessary when Windows 10 reaches its end-of-life date in mid-October.
