Second Annual Photography Show Opens April 26

IUP’S Department of Communications Media will host itssecond annual photography show in DavisHall, Room B-5. Universityand local community guests are invited to attend the show opening on Friday, April 26, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. to view thephotographic works and meet some of our student photographers.

IUP Student to be First Tesla Video Production Intern During Summer 2019

Katie Campbell, a communications media major graduating in August 2019, was selected for a three-month video production paid internship with Tesla Automotive company. Campbell is the first person to be offered an opportunity for an internship with the four-person video production team.

The IUP Film Fest is fast approaching. The event will feature the IUP Student Film Association short film premiere, national high school films from New York, Texas, California, Michigan, Florida, and Pennsylvania; music videos from Pittsburgh; and several national short films.

Comm Media Faculty Member’s Film to Premiere at Mexico City Film Festival

The Empty House, a horror film shot in Indiana, Pennsylvania, will premiere at the Morbido Film Festival in Mexico City starting on October 31, 2018. The film, written and directed by Jeremy Waltman, provided experiential education opportunities for IUP students who worked alongside industry professionals.

Some 300 undergraduate and graduate students attended the Department of Communications Media alumni networking event during homecoming. The event gave students the opportunity to meet graduates of the program, make connections for internships, and gain valuable career advice.

Communications Media Students Take Home National Award for Live Events

Students in the COMM 360 Digital Sports Production class have been recognized alongside the best in the media industry with a Telly Awards silver prize. The award-winning video submitted to the Telly Awards is a compilation of IUP’s 2017 football game against Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.

Communications Media Class Takes Students to New York

The streets of Manhattan provided the venue for a summer 2018 photography course taught by Communications Media faculty member Rachel Porter Fox. Fifteen students enrolled in the COMM 408 Media Field Studies traveled to New York to view the city through the lens of their cameras.

Former White House Photographer Returns to IUP to Meet with Students

Communications Media alumna Amanda Lucidon will return to campus this month to share her experience working in the White House and to discuss her best-selling book, Chasing Light: Michelle Obama Through the Lens of a White House Photographer. Lucidon will speak in IUP’s Stouffer Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. on March 21 with a reception and book signing to follow.

Muchtar Publishes on International Journalism

Communications Media faculty member Nurhaya Muchtar published two articles on international journalism in the Taylor and Francis journal Journalism Studies. “Journalists’ Development Journalism Role Perceptions” was published in December 2016, and “Journalism and the Islamic Worldview” was published in February 2017.

IUP-TV Special Report: “Wounded Warriors: Traumatic Brain Injury”

Traumatic Brain Injury is the topic of an in-depth interview on IUP-TV with Dr. Karl Hursey, a rehabilitation psychologist with the Henry M. Jackson Foundation and the Defense and Veterans’ Brain Injury Center in Johnstown. This thirty-minute special educates veterans and those who care about them to the disparate effects that TBI can have over time and the treatment options available that can lead to recovery.

Comm Media Alumnus Wins Emmy

Joel Goodling, a 2004 Communications Media graduate, won an Emmy along with his production team for the Red Bull Air Race World Series. Awarded in the category of Technical Team Remote, Air Race won over several well-known productions, including ESPN Monday Night Football, NASCAR on FOX, and ESPN X-Games.

A 2001 IUP Communications Media graduate with three young sons is putting her degree to work by enjoying some freelance writing and radio work with Renda Broadcasting, Inc. Christina Putt, a native of Indiana, was a recent host and cohost of the Open Mic program, a live news talk show on Renda Broadcasting.

The Communications Media doctoral program has drawn twenty-one students in its first cohort, greatly exceeding its preliminary estimate of students. This number was well above the sixteen students that officials expected to be enrolled.

IUP Faculty Member Part of Fallen Marine Memorial Run

Doctoral student and professor Karl Roeper has been active with the Fallen Marine Memorial Run, a charity motorcycle event, since it started in 2006. The run honors marines who were killed or disabled in action and helps raise money for their families.
