IUP Council of Trustees Approve Revisions to Indiana Campus Long-Range Facilities Master Plan

On January 31, Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Council of Trustees accepted and approved the proposed revisions to IUP’s Indiana Campus Long-Range Facilities Master Plan goals and themes. This plan links the University’s Strategic Plan to the long-range physical development of the IUP campus over the next 20 years.

In November 2009, the university, with the assistance of SmithGroup (formerly JJR), nationally known campus facility planners, embarked on the preparation of an exciting, comprehensive, long-range facilities master plan.

This plan was to link the University Strategic Plan to the long-range physical development of the IUP campus over the next 20 years. The current process will produce the final five-year update for this comprehensive 20-year plan. The university's objective is to develop an all-encompassing road map for future development that will inform our facilities-based decision making for the next 20 years. It is a guide for development opportunities in building a campus for IUP for the twenty-first century.

On December 16, 2010, the Council of Trustees of Indiana University of Pennsylvania adopted the final plan as the official facilities planning document for the university. This was the beginning of the planning implementation process. The plan is a dynamic and fluid plan, with three phased development programs: 0 to 5 years, 6 to 10 years, and 11 to 20 years, each with a time, cost opinion, and funding possibility.

Preparing for the 2023 Long-Range Facilities Master Plan Update

A campus plan is a long-range document that engages all constituencies, including leadership, decision makers, students, the campus, and surrounding communities in identifying and prioritizing campus improvements.

IUP has engaged with SmithGroup to develop a comprehensive proposal for updating the Long-Range Facilities Master Plan, including an expanded scope of work focusing on space optimization and opportunities for programmatic growth, concentrating on improving the student experience.
SmithGroup will be engaging with the university community to allow for their input and a voice in development of this comprehensive plan. Please follow SmithGroup's schedule for development of the 2023 Long-Range Facilities Master Plan Update.

The SmithGroup conducted a number of open forums on campus during the spring semester, and will be back on campus on September 26 for three open forums:

  • Campus Open Forum for faculty and staff: 10:30 a.m. to noon, Gorell Recital Hall, Sutton Hall
  • Campus Open Forum for students: 1:45 to 2:45 p.m., Gorell Recital Hall, Sutton Hall
  • Community Open Forum: 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., PNC Room, Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex
