Annual events to promote academic diversity and raise community awareness of the Hispanic culture include fall and spring social gatherings. These events are open to the entire campus community.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15), the Hispanic Heritage Council and the Latino Student Organization (LaSO) presented daily events during the week of October 12-16, 2015. These events celebrated the traditions and importance of Latino and Hispanic cultures.
These included Noche de Cine Latino: Maria Full of Grace, the Ritmo Latino Dance Crew, and discussions about Latino concerns presented by various campus fraternities, sororities, and honor societies. The culminating event, Fiesta Latino, took place on Friday, October 16, and featured Latin music and food.
The spring 2016 celebration was the sixth annual Noche Latina, which was held on April 16, 2016. The evening featured music, dancing, and authentic food tasting. Special guest performers from Costa Rica presented a flamenco dance routine.
In addition to the Hispanic Heritage Council and the Latino Student Organization (LaSO), these events were cosponsored by Amnesty International, Lambda Sigma Upsilon Latino Fraternity, Inc., Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc., Sigma Delta Pi, Student Organization for Caribbean Awareness, Tlacuilo Honor Society, and the Office of Social Equity.
