In addition to the standard software provided in the public computing labs, IUP provides an extensive library of academic software for home use. Below is a list of available software.

As referenced in a previous news item, IUP DropBox is being discontinued. If you have any data in the IUP Dropbox service, you will be receiving an email with more information on migrating this data to the Office 365 environment. If you have any questions, please log an ihelp ticket.

Virus and Malware Protection

  • Malwarebytes

    Comprehensive anti-malware software with built in real-time protection. IUP highly recommends students, staff, and faculty download and install this software on their personal machines. Malwarebytes is only available for Windows machines.
  • Anti-Virus

    • If you have Windows 10 on your machine, we recommend that you turn on the built-in antivirus software Windows Defender. You also want to make sure Auto Updates are turned on.
    • If you do not have Windows 10 on your PC, or if you have a Mac, you can install Avast Essential Security.

Office 365

Microsoft Office 365 is the latest office software suite from Microsoft. The software suite is now available to all enrolled students, staff, and faculty through the Microsoft campus agreement that IUP participates in.Your Office 365 subscription also includes several Office 365 Applications over the internet.


IUP OnTheHub is an area in which you can purchase and install software not found on the IUP website. Some of the software included is one copy of Windows 10 Education, Visual Studio 2017, and extensions for SPSS.

  • Windows 10 Education

    Windows 10 Education is available through, which is a service that allows students to procure licensing at a discounted price for products such as Windows 10 Education edition and Parallels for Mac (not free).

Microsoft Azure

Microsoft Azure is a service provided by Microsoft for students. Azure provides access to software like SQ: Server 2017 and Windows Server. Click Sign In after clicking on the link and enter your IUP Network Credentials to sign in.


EndNote is a full-featured research and writing tool that generates bibliographies in specified output styles, maintains references, assists with downloading references from electronic databases (e.g., Ovid, Proquest), and supports citing references while writing. This product can be installed on a PC or Mac.


Mathematica by Wolfram Research is available to all faculty, staff, and current registered students for academic-related activities at no additional cost to the end user.


NVivo is a qualitative data analysis software package designed for researchers working with very rich text-based and/or multimedia information, where deep levels of analysis on small or large volumes of data are required. NVivo removes many of the manual tasks associated with analysis, like classifying, sorting, and arranging information, so you have more time to explore trends, test theories, and arrive at answers to questions.


SPSS is a software package used to analyze data and perform complex calculations on data. SPSS software is heavily used in research projects to assist with breaking down data and providing reporting.

Download Adobe Reader to open and view PDF files.

Adobe Creative Cloud

Adobe Creative Suite CC is a powerful set of software tools. The Creative Cloud can assist in areas such as web design, image editing, video editing, graphic and art design, desktop publishing, game development, animation, and much more. These applications are available to all IUP administration, staff, and faculty and to select students.


The Department for Disability Access and Advising offers Read&Write literacy support software from Texthelp. Read&Write is available to all IUP students via their IUP Office 365 Account.
