Ileana Townsend
Director: Education Abroad

Ileana works closely with students, families, faculty, and campus partners to support students throughout the full study abroad journey, from exploration and academic planning to preparation, in-country support, and re-entry. She supports a wide range of education abroad opportunities, including exchanges, direct-enroll and provider programs, internships, and faculty-led experiences, helping students navigate program selection, scholarships, and practical logistics.

Mentorship is central to Ileana’s work. She supervises and trains graduate assistants, practicum students, and undergraduate peer advisors, intentionally preparing them through hands-on projects.

Ileana serves as IUP’s representative for nationally competitive global education scholarships. She contributes to the field of international education through service as a Gilman selection panelist and as a poster fair organizer and session proposal reviewer for NAFSA: Association of International Educators.

Fluent in Spanish and English, Ileana approaches international education as a collaborative learning partnership that emphasizes belonging, reflection, and growth for students and emerging professionals.
