Why Visit the IUP Career and Professional Development Center?

Graduation day is not the day you should start thinking about your career. The Career and Professional Development Center is committed to providing quality services and developmental opportunities that support the educational objectives of IUP. Our goal is to teach students, by providing career consultation and support, how to become active participants in their own continuing career development.

Why should you take advantage of the services offered by the IUP Career and Professional Development Center?

Check out the IUP Career and Professional Development Center Facebook page, and IUP Career and Professional Development Center videos for information about what services are provided by our office and how you can improve your job search skills.

As we continue to move through this challenging time, the CPDC is adapting to ensure that your career planning needs are still met and other associated work is achieved. To this end

  • While we've offered virtual appointments for some time now, we are planning for most of our events to be held in person unless otherwise noted.

LGBTQIA Support equals IUP

Student and Graduate Support Program

The Career and Professional Development Center is committed to providing all students with quality services and developmental opportunities that support the educational objectives of IUP. Our goal is to advance students and alumni toward their career trajectories by providing career consultation and support and teaching them how to become active participants in their own continuing career development and success. Help us to help students and alumni by investing today in our efforts through a gift to the Career and Professional Development Center. There are three specific ways you can support us:

  • IUP CPDC General Fund- This fund supports activities and programming that advance the professional growth and career development of IUP's students and alumni.
  • IUP Internship Support Initiative Fund- This fund helps to give students the opportunity to do an internship; to learn, grow, and get experience in their desired work/field; and to develop career-relevant skills, by supplementing expenses that students incur.
  • IUP Professional Clothing-Career Closet Fund- Every student and graduate should have appropriate business and professional attire to present themselves in the best possible manner; but not every student has the means or knowledge to make this happen. Thus, we've established this fund to support our students and new graduates with appropriate professional attire and accessories.

Corporate Partnership Program

Please consider a donation to the Career and Professional Development Center's Foundation for IUP account. All donations will go toward initiatives that directly support student success.

Handshake Highlights

Students

Handshake is a one-stop shop for students to prepare and launch their careers; and for companies, nonprofits, and organizations of all shapes and sizes to find, recruit, and hire IUP alumni. Handshake uses data to help students find jobs or internships that best match their interests.

Alumni

IUP alumni can sign up for Handshake using their personal email address. The IUP Single Sign-On function is available only for current students. If you are a current student, do not fill out the Alumni Registration Form, since your account has already been created.

Employers

  • Multi-school job posting—with just a few clicks, post your job across dozens of schools, for free. (Please register using a permanent staff member's name and email address as the organization's contact, and not someone in a temporary or internship position.)

  • Powerful applicant filtering—narrow down potential hires to the best fits through our advanced filter options.

  • Dedicated employer training and support—Handshake University will quick-start your experience with weekly webinars, videos, and help articles. Employers can also contact Handshake's world-class support team for hands-on help.

Graduate holding her diploma and smilingRésumé Reviews and Career Information

If you need to have your résumé reviewed, but don't have the opportunity to stop by our office, you can send it to resume-review@iup.edu. Your résumé will be reviewed by one of our career consultants, and you will receive feedback.

We make every effort to be timely in the approval process, but it may take up to five or more business days to review and provide feedback on your résumé. Processing time may increase during busy times of the year (e.g., before a career fair, large networking event, or when all students in a class are required to have their résumé reviewed).

Be aware of job and internship application deadlines, and begin the résumé approval process well before an application is due. If you have an urgent need to have your résumé reviewed, please contact our office directly at 724-357-2235 or email your request to career-development@iup.edu.
