There are four different kinds of programs at the American Language Institute at IUP.
In addition to the full-time program, the Bridge Program provides advanced American Language Institute students the opportunity to take credit-bearing courses at IUP while refining their English skills in ALI classes. The ALI Provisional Program offers conditional admission for students to study English at the American Language Institute before starting a degree program at IUP. The Special Program provides advanced American Language Institute students the opportunity to create programs designed to meet students’ schedules and specific language learning needs.

Special Programs
The American Language Institute is happy to work with organizations and universities to create programs designed to meet students’ schedules and specific language learning needs. Please contact us for additional information at ali-programs@iup.edu.
The OIE and ALI have worked with international students and scholars from all over the world and have a long history of creating specialized programs. Example special programs through the OIE and ALI include:
Projects
Proyecta 100,000
Students received a full scholarship from the Mexican government to attend ALI for a short-term immersive cultural learning experience. Proyecta 100,000 was an initiative of the Mexican government promoting the vision of a multinational region of knowledge by encouraging opportunities for student mobility, innovation, development, and mutual understanding between the United States and Mexico. Proyecta 100,000 was a complementary initiative to the US program 100,000 Strong in the Americas.
Hebei University (HBU – China) Capacity Building
Through the HBU Capacity Building program, visiting professors from many different academic disciplines studied intensive English and US academic culture at the ALI, audited courses, and partnered with IUP faculty mentors to support shared pedagogy and research. This program strengthened the institutional relationship between IUP and HBU and encouraged faculty, staff, and student mobility and research.
Brazil Scientific Mobility Program
IUP hosted students from the Brazil Scientific Mobility Program for intensive English, undergraduate coursework, and academic training. BSMP was a one-year, nondegree program for Brazilian students to study abroad in the United States. BSMP was part of the Brazilian government’s larger initiative to grant 100,000 Brazilian university students the opportunity to study abroad at the world’s best colleges and universities.
