Lizoon Nahar and Farheen Mahmood, Curriculum and Instruction doctoral candidates, presented a poster at the Society of Information Technology and Teacher Education Conference in San Diego in April 2022. The poster title was "Virtual Laboratory in Secondary Science Education in Bangladesh: Learners’, Teachers’, and Institutional Perspectives."

Abstract

Global technological advancement has unlocked boundless educational opportunities recently; virtual science laboratories (VSLs) are one of them. This proposed mixed-method study investigates the effectiveness of VSLs from students', educators', and institutional viewpoints, along with the challenges it poses in high schools in Bangladesh. We will use the Sloan Consortium's Quality Online Education Model (Moore, 2005) to guide design of the study. We will use multiple sources of data to answer our research questions. This will include analysis of semi-structured interview data from two high school science teachers from Dhaka, Bangladesh, pretest-posttest surveys data from 80 nine graders, and institutional documents.
