Students who wish to major in composition must audition for the Department of Music on aninstrument or for voice. At the time of the audition, or upon learning the results, they may submit to Professor John Levey (jlevey@iup.edu) scores for two or threeoriginal compositions. Recordings or MIDI renderings of the compositions arerecommended, but not required.

Applicants who audition successfully and whose portfolio demonstrates sufficient technical development will be admitteddirectly into the composition program. Those who audition successfully but require introductory study in composition will beadmitted to the BA in Music program and reassessed after their first or second year, if they choose.

Students who have already matriculated in a music program at IUP and wish to switch to the composition major are not requiredto re-audition, but must submit a portfolio according to the guidelines above.
