Biography

Evan Engelstad is an instructor of music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches Introduction to Musicand directs IUP's Popular Music Ensemble. In spring 2016, he directed the pit orchestra for the IUP musical production ofThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. An experienced piano teacher and collaborator, Engelstad also teaches private lessons as a part of the IUP Community Music School, accompanies the university's Mens and Womens Chorus, and has served as rehearsal pianist for the musical production.

Engelstad holds a bachelor of arts degree in music and physics from Willamette University and a master of music degree in piano performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He recently finished a doctor of musical arts degree in piano pedagogy and performance at the University of WisconsinMadison. Having an interest in musicians' wellness, his current research focuses on the effects diet and nutrition have on musical performance.

In addition to performing solo and collaborative classical music, Engelstad enjoys playing gospel, salsa, and jazz keyboard styles.
