Answers to questions about the new Switch Tech Suite Locks
How do I download and set up the app to gain entry to my suite?
Download the mobile app on your phone by searching on either the App Store or Google Play for "Best Switch Mobile Access." You can also download it via the links below:
Make sure to choose Yes to all questions during installation. The app must have permission for both Bluetooth and notifications to work.
- Once the app is installed and you start it up, it will ask you to enter your cell phone number or email address, and you will receive a text or email (from no-reply.prod@legicconnect.com) with a code you will enter for verification.
Once the app is verified, click on the top where it says Select a Key and then click on the “+” sign to add a key.
Enter the key token for your Mobile Credential (you'll receive this from access-request@IUP.edu in your IUP email). You should be able to copy and paste the whole token into the app.
Click Submit after entering the token.
Note: Returning students should uninstall the app to refresh all information from the previous year.
How do I use the app to unlock my suite door?
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled and active on your phone. Once your key token is accepted, the app will come up with an Activate button. To unlock a Switch Tech BlueTooth Lock:
-
Click the Activate button on the App, and the lock should blink green showing it's unlocked.
-
Touch the lock, and it will blink with a blue light showing that it has woken up.
-
You can then turn the Switch Tech Lock like a key and open the door.
If turning it one way doesn't work, turn it the other way. You do not turn the handle! Turn the green lit-up lock itself until it releases the latch and opens the door.
How do I use the app to unlock my building entrance/hallway doors?
-
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled and active on your phone. Click the Activate button on the App and touch your phone to the proximity reader on the entrance/hallway.
-
The reader will show a green light and the app will show a green check mark.
-
The door should pull open.
-
On hallway doors, you need to turn the handle to open the door.
-
How do I receive my key token?
You will receive an email with your token information. If you have questions or need a key token, please send an email to access-request@iup.edu with your student ID and we can answer your question or send you a token.
How many devices can I put the app on?
You can only have the app and use a token on one device. If you need to install it on a new phone, you will need a new token. You may get an auto-generated email with the new token. You may send an email to access-request@iup.edu with your student ID and we can send you a token.
What happens if I delete the token or try to put the app and token on a second or new device?
The system will generate a new token automatically. You should get an auto-generated email with the new token within one half hour; otherwise, contact access-request@iup.edu for your new token. Try not to do this after hours. Housing hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
What do I do if I can’t open my door with the app?
Contact your hall office staff (your RA) and they can let you into your room. Your RA will tell you what needs to be done to get your app working.
