Creating College Success is an early-entrance freshman experience for first-year students sponsored by the Department of Undergraduate Studies and Student Success* and scheduled during the week before fall semester.
The experience includes enrollment in the one-credit course Creating College Success (UGSS 281), workshops, and other informational and social activities. Students also have the option of enrolling in Strategies for Success in Math (MATH 150).
Many times, students experience difficulties adjusting to college. People may have already told you, “College is not like high school!” But what is college like? Are you nervous about where to go and what to do? Do you wonder what classes will be like? Do you know how to be successful in college?
Studies show that when students are given an early, formal introduction to college, they are more likely to experience satisfaction and to graduate. Colleges and universities often offer seminars to students during the freshman year, when students especially need support, knowledge, and skills.
IUP is offering a pre-college program to a limited number of first-year students through the Department of Undergraduate Studies and Student Success. The program is called Creating College Success and is designed to help you make a satisfactory transition to the college experience and to enhance your chances for academic success.
Creating College Success Will Include the Following:

Enrollment in the one-credit class UGSS 281: Creating College Success (for graduating credit), and the option of enrolling in MATH 150: Strategies for Success in Math.

Workshops, tours, and social activities in collaboration with Welcome Week programming.
Students will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrollment is limited.

†Tuition for in-state students is included as one of your 12-17.9 credits taken during the fall 2022 semester.

To Register for Creating College Success
- Log on to My IUP.
- Log in, and select Finances.
- Follow the link to IUP EasyPay, then click the IUP EasyPay button.
- In EasyPay, choose eDeposits on the top toolbar.
- In the Select Term drop-down list, choose the upcoming Fall semester and click Select.
- In the Select Deposit Payment drop-down list, choose Creating College Success and click Select.
- Continue to payment method, and complete the payment information.
The completed payment page will serve as confirmation of participation in the Creating College Success program. Additional information will be sent via email the first week of August. Please email Luke Faust at lefaust@iup.edu if you have any questions.
The remaining cost will appear on your fall bill. The $50 deposit is nonrefundable for cancellations or no-shows.
