On May 4, 2023, Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Council of Trustees approved the naming of a geoscience laboratory in IUP’s John J. and Char Kopchick Hall in honor and memory of one of the founding members of IUP’s Department of Geoscience.

Scott Semelsberger, a junior biology pre-medicine major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania from Northern Cambria, has been selected for IUP’s 2022 Kopchick Summer Fellowship. As the fellowship recipient, he will spend 10 weeks during the summer (from June 6 to August 12) engaged in research at the internationally known MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
When Dr. Deanne Snavely announced her retirement as dean of the John J. and Char Kopchick College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics on June 4, 2021, her friends and colleagues knew they needed to come together to honor Dr. Snavely’s work and tenure at the university.

The tutoring room will be named “The Admiral’s Study” in her honor.

Now that he’s delivering all of his courses remotely, including chemistry labs, his perspective on face-to-face learning hasn’t changed.
