Biography
Clarinetist Emily Rose is a native of Southwest Virginia, born in Abingdon (1994) and raised in Columbiaville, Michigan, and Richlands, Virginia, respectively. In 2015, Emily completed her undergraduate studies at Southwest Virginia Community College, and in 2019, she completed her studies at Appalachian State University (Boone, North Carolina), receiving dual degrees in clarinet performance and K-12 instrumental education. In 2024, she completed her doctoral studies in clarinet performance at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where she previously completed her master’s (2021).
Emily previously served as the woodwind professor at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, the adjunct clarinet professor at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the woodwind, preschool, and art instructor at Music Works Academy in Beatrice, Nebraska. Since moving to Pennsylvania, she has served as a third- through eighth-grade instrumental music instructor with Northeastern Music Programs, teaching at St. Thomas More, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and Holy Family School.
Currently, Emily works out of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, as a private woodwind instructor; in addition, she serves as the interim clarinet professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a clarinet and saxophone instructor at Menchey School of Music in Reading, Pennsylvania, and regularly performs as a first clarinetist with the Allentown Band, America’s oldest concert band (founded 1828).
Throughout her career, Emily has performed in Virginia, North and South Carolina, Nebraska, Connecticut, Mississippi, New Jersey, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Texas, and New Mexico in various solo, chamber, and new music ensembles. She has been a featured soloist with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and an avid performer at festivals, including the Women Composers Festival of Hartford, Connecticut, the International Music by Women Festival in Columbus, Mississippi, the S.H.E. Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the ICA’s ClarinetFest in Fort Worth, Texas (2025), and the John Donald Robb Composers’ Symposium in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Emily serves as a member of both the International Clarinet Association and the National Association for Music Educators, previously serving as the founding member, chair, and cochair of the Membership and Development Committee for the ICA. Over the course of her time in Nebraska, Emily worked for the nonprofit organization Arts Incorporated, where she coordinated events, functions, and grants for the Capital Jazz Society, Nebraska Jazz Orchestra, and Lincoln Municipal Band.
Outside of clarinet-ing, she spends her time drawing, reading/collecting Marvel comics, and playing various video games alongside her partner and composer, Josh Aguiar.
