David WachobResponsibilities/Achievements

David Wachob is a professor and program coordinator for the teacher education programs in the Department of Kinesiology, Health, and Sport Science.

He is a certified health and physical education teacher, with both a baccalaureate and master's degree in the discipline. His doctoral degree is in education, with a focus in curriculum and instruction. Wachob also holds several national certifications, including certified adapted physical educator, certified health education specialist, and physical best fitness specialist.

Education/Experience

Wachob has been teaching in higher education since 2009, which includes being a faculty member at Lock Haven University before his appointment at IUP. Prior to his career in higher education, Wachob has worked in both the private and public school settings as a teacher, coach, and aquatics director. He was also the head teacher of the health and physical education department at Abraxas I, a school for troubled youth, where he taught both health and physical education and ran an outdoor education program.

Wachob developed the IUP Homeschool Physical Education Program that serves around 100 local homeschooling students and their families. Furthermore, he is the program coordinator for both the undergraduate and graduate Health and Physical Education Teacher certification programs. He also actively sits on several local, college, and regional committees. He sat on the State Executive Board of the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance for over 12 years as a local delegate and in a three-year term as vice president for the Recreation Division. He is also currently the Indiana-Armstrong County chapter president for PSAHPERD.
