Setting up Duo for multi-factor authentication protects your IUP account and personal information. Once you are enrolled, level up with these tips!
The Duo prompt has various options such as adding a second phone or tablet to use when authenticating.
Remember Me!
One of the options on the Duo prompt is the Remember me checkbox. It is helpful to check the Remember me for 1 day checkbox as shown below.
Checking this box will decrease the frequency of seeing the Duo prompt. Once checked, you will not need to authenticate with Duo for 24 hours. Keep in mind, this only applies to that web browser on that computer. If you use a different computer and/or browser, you will need to authenticate with Duo again.
Duo Prompt Options
Adding multiple devices to DUO allows you authenticate using the device that is closest to you.
To begin, navigate to a service that requires DUO authentication on a separate device than the one you want to add. On the left side of the prompt, click the Add a new device button.
Authenticate with your existing device to verify your identity.
Choose the type of device you want to add. (If you select mobile phone, you will need to provide the device's phone number)
Choose the device's operating system
Go to the app store on your device and find the Duo Mobile app. Once it is installed, click on I have Duo Mobile installed.
From here, the process is the same as enrolling your first device. Follow the prompts on both screens. Once the second device is set up, you can click Continue to Login
At the top of the Duo prompt, you will see a Device: dropdown where you can select the device to use for authentication.
Authenticate with the second device when needed!
If you get a new phone, you can transfer your Duo account from the old device to the new one.
However, you must still have the old device and connect it to the internet.
To begin, navigate to a service that requires DUO authentication on a separate device than the one you want to add. On the left side of the prompt, click the Add a new device button.
Authenticate with your existing device to verify your identity.
Choose Mobile phone.
Enter your phone number. A message will appear asking if you want to replace the existing number. Select the checkbox to the left of this message.
Click Continue and follow the prompts to set up Duo on the new device. This will deactivate Duo on the old device.
If you forgot the device you use for Duo at home, you can use a second device such as a tablet if you set it up previously.
If you do not have a second device added to Duo, you will need to call the IT Support Center at 724-357-4000 to request a temporary bypass code.
You can edit a device's name, reactivate Duo, or remove a device from the My Settings & Devices screen.
To begin, click the My Settings & Devices button on the left side of the Duo prompt.
Next, authenticate with your existing Duo device.
From this screen, select the blue Device Options button next to the device you want to edit.
From the dropdown that appears, you can: rename the device, reactivate the device, or remove the device.
At the bottom of this screen, you can also select a default device and automatically send a push to that device.
When you are finished, click the green Save button. Click Back to Login to return to the login screen.
