Indiana University of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce the availability of the Karl A. McDermott Scholarship for Economics.

Dr. Karl A. McDermott received a BA in economics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, an MA in economics from the University of Wyoming, and a PhD in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. McDermott is the Ameren Distinguished Professor of Business and Government at the University of Illinois at Springfield. In addition to this appointment, he is also a special consultant with NERA Economic Consulting. McDermott specializes in public utility regulation and served as Commissioner (1992-98) on the Illinois Commerce Commission.

Purpose of Fund

The Karl A. McDermott Scholarship for Economics shall be awarded annually to students enrolled full-time at Indiana University of Pennsylvania majoring in economics based on the established criteria with preference given to eligible female students.

Criteria

  1. Student has a declared major in economics.

  2. Preference for female students to overcome the under-representation of women in economics and related professions.

  3. Student has demonstrated overall academic achievement and the promise for future success.

Selection Decision

Selection of recipients for the Karl A. McDermott Scholarship for Economics shall be made by the Economics Scholarship Committee.
