Approach to Therapy

Generally speaking, I view individuals' current problems as a result of learning and engagement in various systems. We learn how to respond to emotions, conflict, or uncertainty via our development, particularly within relationships. The ideas of sense of self and interpersonal pattern are greatly influenced by a multitude of larger scale variables (e.g. race, gender, sexuality, culture) as well as biological markers. When meeting with a client, I consider the individual's experiences within systems (micro- and macrocosm) and how the client functions within all of these systems. I strive to facilitate an egalitarian relationship and create a genuine connection with my clients—in my mind, this is the basis for any meaningful change. I want to not only help clients realize their potential, but to feel confident in their ability to get there.

More concisely (and less jargon-y), I try to create a safe space for someone to talk about life and I want to support them in whatever way I can to help them get the most out of it. This may include crying, laughing at memes together, or providing feedback. I love working with college students and this age group because of the capacity for change, and meaningful change at that. I'm privileged to be a small part of your journey, whether that's one session or throughout your college career.
