Tom received his BS in finance from Ohio University in 1964. His first job was with The Equitable Life Assurance Society, followed by Allis-Chalmers Credit Corporation, serving in several management roles with increasing responsibilities.

He joined Ingersoll Rand Credit Corporation as a National Operations Manager and Assistant Secretary in 1982. Tom also worked with Beckwith Machinery Company, the Western Pennsylvania Caterpillar dealer, until the company was sold to Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co., Inc. in 2005. Tom retired in July 2009.

Early on in his career Tom became involved outside of the workplace, elected as President of The Wisconsin National Association of Credit Management in 1977. He joined Financial Executives International in 1989, serving in various officer capacities including President of the Pittsburgh Chapter in 2001, and in the national organization as Area Director (2003-2006), Director at Large (2006-2008), and Area Vice President (2008-2010). He successfully worked with state legislature representatives in Pennsylvania and West Virginia to amend the Uniform Commercial Code which extended the Purchase Money Security Interest grace period from ten to twenty days.

Tom was honored by the Western Pennsylvania National Association of Credit Management as their Credit Executive of the Year in 1996.
