Ben Ford, applied archaeology MA graduate student Stephanie Zellers, and chemistry undergraduate Ethan Addicott received awards during the ninety-first annual meeting of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology.
Zellers won the W. Fred Kinsey Scholarship for her paper "Protecting the Unknown in Watershed 18B: The Kiskiminetas River and Beaver Run." In addition to a monetary prize, Zellers' paper will be considered for publication in the journal Pennsylvania Archaeologist. Zellers is the fourth IUP student to win this award since its inception in 2009.
Addicott, an anthropology minor advised in his research by Lara Homsey-Messer (Anthropology) and Charles Lake (Chemistry), was recognized for having the best student poster at the conference. His poster, "Geochemical Fingerprinting of the South Mountain Metarhyolite Quarries," is part of the larger South Mountain Landscape Study.
Ford received the J. Alden Mason Award for his commitment to archaeological education. The J. Alden Mason Award is given to a professional archaeologist based on their contribution to the education and encouragement of SPA members in the proper pursuit of archaeology over an appreciable number of years. Ford was thrilled to have so many former students, now colleagues, in attendance at the meetings.
