Applied Archaeology Recognized by American Cultural Resources Association

IUP Applied Archaeology MA Program was the first academic program recognized for preparing students for cultural resource management careers by the American Cultural Resources Association.

Poole Publishes on Nationalism and Citizenship in the Horn of Africa

Amanda Poole of the Department of Anthropology co-published an article with Jennifer Riggan of Arcadia University in the journal Modern Africa: Politics, History, and Society, titled “Oscillating Imaginaries: War, Peace, and the Precarious Relations between Eritrea and Ethiopia.”

Anthropology Students Make a Splash at Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology Annual Meeting

Five Applied Archaeology program students presented research at the ninety-second annual meeting of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology. Four brought home awards. They were joined by alumni and emeritus professors in representing IUP.

Poole Publishes Research on Horn of Africa

Amanda Poole of the Anthropology Department co-authored a chapter with Jennifer Riggan of Arcadia University titled “Multi-directional movement and the management of mobility between Ethiopia and Eritrea (1993–2020).”

Palmiotto Attains Highest Professional Certification Through American Board of Forensic Anthropology

Anthropology faculty member Andrea Palmiotto attained the highest professional certification through the American Board of Forensic Anthropology. She is one of two American Board of Forensic Anthropology Diplomates currently working in Pennsylvania.

Applied Archaeology Program in Top Three for Registered Professional Archaeologists

IUP’s Applied Archaeology MA program ranked in the top three registered professional archaeologist-producing schools in 2021. The program ranked as number three in the world for producing students who became registered professional archaeologists in 2021.

IUP at Society for Historical Archaeology Conference

We were happy to see so many alumni of the Anthropology BA and Applied Archaeology MA programs at the recent Conference on Historical and Underwater Archaeology. Former students who attended the conference are now working for the US Army Corps of Engineers, cultural resource management firms, departments of transportation, departments of natural resources, and the Student Conservation Association.
