About New Faculty Orientation
Each year in August, the Center for Teaching Excellence organizes and facilitates a three-day New Faculty Orientation for all new permanent and temporary faculty members, as well as graduate student teaching associates. This orientation is always held the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday prior to the start of the fall semester, and aims to welcome new faculty to the IUP community and to help their transition to IUP be as smooth as possible.
New faculty are provided with essential start-up information from a variety of sources, including IUP faculty, IUP administration, and APSCUF, the faculty union. Key university policies related to teaching are reviewed. Sessions include background information and tips to support both faculty and student success in and outside of the classroom. Faculty also engage in a series of presentations and discussions focusing on tenure, promotion, and research.
