Find information on what is unique to international students, how many credits they should take each semester, and possible difficulties they may encounter.
Each semester, various faculty members report requests from English learners for extended time to process exam questions. While international students are required to meet English proficiency requirements for admission to IUP, individuals may still experience challenges related to language and cultural adjustment. International students sometimes request extended time on tests to allow additional time for language processing.
IUP does not have a policy regarding accommodations for English learners, and test proctoring services are not available through the Office of International Education or through D2A2 unless students have a verified disability. Faculty and departments may offer extended test time at their discretion.
The Office of International Education can assist with verifying international students who are here on a non-immigrant visa: email email@example.com.
Not all English learners are international and here on a visa. In these cases, faculty may use their best judgment for extended exam times.
