Background and Experience:
Kim Desmond joined the Counseling Department as a tenure-track faculty member in fall 2006 and has served as department chairperson since 2020. She completed her doctorate from Kent State University in counselor education and supervision. Her dissertation focused on the mentoring experiences of school counselors without teaching experience. She is also a graduate of IUP's Secondary School Counseling program.
She has experience working as an outpatient therapist in clinical mental health settings as well as working with children in the school environment. She teaches in the doctoral, school, and clinical mental health programs. Her research interests include counselor development, school counseling, counseling supervision, advocacy, and postmodern approaches to counseling.
She is an active member of the American Counseling Association, the American School Counselor Association, and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. She is honored and privileged to be a member of the faculty at IUP and looks forward to collaborating with students, faculty, and alumni.
