Graduate students apply for graduation through MyIUP. Graduate students are required to apply for graduation by the established deadlines.

Deadline Dates

  • May Graduation: April 1
  • August Graduation: April 1
  • December Graduation: November 1
  • January Graduation*: November 1

*January graduation is offered to master's-level students in non-thesis tracks. All doctoral students and master's students writing a thesis can graduate in May, August, or December.

After applying for graduation, graduate students will be able to confirm their attendance for the commencement ceremony the following day. (An automated overnight process needs to occur before one is able to view the confirm attendance link located on the MyIUP home page.)

  • May and August graduates can confirm their attendance to participate in the May ceremony.
  • December and January graduates can confirm their attendance to participate in the December ceremony.

Application Process

In the current MyIUP portal, my.iup.edu:

  1. Sign in to MyIUP and log in with your username and network password.
  2. Select Academics in the top menu bar
  3. Scroll to the Modify Academic Record section and select Apply for Graduation: Graduate.

In the new MyIUP portal:

  1. Log in to MyIUP. Go to Discover and search for "grad."
  2. On the Getting Ready for Graduation card, select Apply for Graduate Graduation.

Continue in either portal:

  1. Your IUP official academic record will display your name, IUP ID number, and program of study. It is important that you check this information carefully, for if a program of study is incorrect, your graduation checkout will be affected. (If your program is incorrect, you must contact the School of Graduate Studies and Research office.)

    • If you are listed as a confidential student, your name will not appear in the Graduate Commencement Program unless you notify the School of Graduate Studies and Research at grad-student-graduation@iup.edu

  2. You must select a graduation date. Please note that the online graduation application can only be used until the graduation application deadline. After the deadline date, the online program is not active. If you are applying after the deadline date, you must contact the School of Graduate Studies and Research to petition for permission to graduate.

  3. Place the cursor into the address box and type in the address to where you want your diploma sent after you are cleared for graduation. Please note that whatever address you enter here has no impact on the address(es) IUP currently has on record for you. This diploma mailing address does not update any address you have with the university. This is strictly for mailing your diploma.

  4. Please double-check all the information you have entered. If you are satisfied it is correct, click on the gray Submit button.

  5. The information you have entered will display. Any time you come back to check this "Apply for Graduation," the information you have entered will display. You can not update this information online. If you have any corrections after you have submitted your information, you must contact the School of Graduate Studies and Research in Stright Hall.

  6. Please go to the link containing information regarding graduation for the date for which you are planning to graduate. You should refer to this graduation information and be watchful for other information to be mailed to you.

  7. Log out of MyIUP.
