Get Ready for Class

  • Your culinary journey is about to begin! Here’s what you need to do before classes begin:

Activate your IUP network account and your IUP email account.

Information regarding your IUP network account and IUP email account was mailed with your acceptance letter. Here’s how to activate your IUP network and email accounts if you have not already done so.

Practice weights and measures before you start classes.

You will use cooking weights and measures in every culinary and baking class that you take this fall. Check out this basic guide to Weights and Measures in the Kitchen to help you become familiar with some of the basics.

Make sure you have the right tools.

Your books, uniforms, and knife kit will be included in your supply package, but there are a few other things you will need. Check out the list of supplies that you will need to bring with you or purchase when you arrive at school.

    Request disability support services.

If you are eligible for support services, request service even if you don’t plan to use it. (Your request is confidential, and you do not have to use support if you find you do not need it.)

Go to the Department for Disability Access and Advising for detailed information about the support services available at IUP.

    • Please complete the Declaration of Disability Form if you will require support services during your enrollment at IUP.
    • Return the Declaration of Disability Form to:
Department for Disability Access and Advising
      Pratt Hall, Room 216
      201 Pratt Drive
      Indiana, PA 15705
    • Submit your form before starting school to ensure that your services are ready to go when you start classes.

Prepare to manage your health away from home.

Check out Health Care Services in Punxsutawney for information about local health care providers and services. Be sure to bring your insurance card(s) with you when you come to school.

Are you planning to apply for work on campus or in the community while you are attending classes?

Bring your Social Security card to school. You will need it to be hired.
