Classes and Requirements

Classes required for the graduate certificate in mathematics education can be taken entirely online. In addition to taking these courses, you will need to complete IUP’s three-step process for teacher education for formal qualification to teach middle or high school math in Pennsylvania.

Students can also transition easily into IUP’s master’s in education degree in Mathematics Education, either adding the certification to their MEd degree or continuing from the certification to complete their master’s degree.

In addition to the 24 credits required for this certificate, the program director and faculty team will conduct a thorough review for each applicant to determine if additional coursework is necessary to meet the program’s mathematics prerequisites.
