IUP Receives Five-Year Continued Funding for Upward Bound Math and Science Program

IUP has received funding for its Upward Bound Mathand Science program through the US Department of Education. Projected fundingfor this grant over a five-year period is anticipated to be $1.31 million.

Upward Bound Math and Science Hosts FabLab

Upward Bound Math and Science is hosting the Intermediate Unit 1 FabLab this week, June 12–16, for the program’s summer scholars. The FabLab containsa ShopBot, 3D printer and scanner, engraver, vinyl cutter, and computer lab.

UBMS visits Colonial School FabLab

Jacque Benhart and Joanna Harrington from Upward Bound Math and Science visited the IU1 Colonial High School FabLab on October 24, 2016. They were greeted by excited instructors and encouraging administration who were eager to demonstrate the students' use of laser cutters, CNC machines, 3D printers, and more.

IUP Upward Bound Students Continue to Enjoy Scholarship Success

Upward Bound Math andScience program student Tabitha Yates is the recipient of a $20,000 scholarshipfrom the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation to support education-relatedexpenses in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. Yates is the second student from the Upward Bound program to receive the Dell scholarship.

Applications of Math and Science Presented to Upward Bound Scholars by Branan and Bencloski

Dr. Yvonne Branan, assistant professor for the Department of Geoscience, and Dr. Joseph Bencloski, professor in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, enriched Upward Bound Math and Science participants with a demonstration in Math and Science application exercises at their monthly Saturday Academy on the IUP main campus.
