Class of 1959
Major General Leonard L. Hoch assumed the position of commanding general, 99th Army Reserve command in Oakdale, Pennsylvania, on May 1, 1993. The Army Command (ARCOM) was comprised of one hundred units with over 10,000 personnel located in Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio, and all of West Virginia.
General Hoch began his military career in 1959 when he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Quartermaster Branch from the ROTC program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He served on active duty at Fort Lee, Virginia, as a student and later as a unit officer with the Quartermaster Training Command.
General Hoch has served in the Army Reserve since April 1961. He held various command positions on the company level and staff positions at HQ 99th ARCOM, including public affairs officer, personnel staff officer, equal opportunity officer, adjutant general, assistant chief of staff, and deputy chief of staff Personnel and Administration. In November 1983, he was assigned as commander, 443rd Field Depot. He became 99th ARCOM chief of staff in February 1985 and assumed command of the 464th Chemical Brigade in March 1988.
General Hoch is a graduate of the Quartermaster Basic and Advanced Courses and the Command and General Staff College. During his military career, General Hoch has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon.
He is a member of the Reserve Officers Association, Association of the United States Army, Senior Army Reserve Commanders Association, and the Military Order of World Wars.
General Hoch holds a baccalaureate degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, Pennsylvania.
