Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Office of International Education will host a number of events to celebrate national International Education Week, including an Oct. 16 naturalization ceremony welcoming 74 new American citizens from 38 countries.
The naturalization ceremony, open to the community, is at 11:00 a.m. on October 16 at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex Toretti Auditorium and is conducted by the United States Customs and Immigration Service.
International Education Week events, all free and open to the community, include an International Lunch Hour and Culture Fair on October 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Sutton Hall Blue Room; the Education Abroad Fair in the atrium of Jane E. Leonard Hall on October 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; International Poetry Night on October 14 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Elkin Hall; and International Karaoke Night at Culture Café on October 16 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the Folger Student Center.
International Education Week is a joint initiative between the United States Department of State and the United States Department of Education to promote cross-cultural awareness, prepare students for a global environment, and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.
IUP President Michael Driscoll will make remarks at the ceremony and will join Immigration Services officials in welcoming the new citizens.
IUP’s fall 2026 enrollment includes 348 international students from 62 countries, including 74 students enrolled in the American Language Institute. For more than 40 years, IUP’s ALI has provided intensive English programs for students from all over the world who want to improve their language proficiency and cultural understanding of the United States.
