Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Squad Art Studio, an alternative, community-based, multi-site Saturday school for young children facilitated by IUP preservice art educators and art education faculty, will join with Indiana’s Keys Montessori School for a joint art exhibition.

This first exhibition will be hosted in IUP’s Kipp Gallery, located in IUP’s Sprowls Hall, from May 5 to May 14. It will feature a variety of individual, collaborative, mixed, and digital media works created by children ages six months to six years in Squad Art Studio and in Squad’s collaboration with Keys Montessori School.

The exhibition is free and open to the community. Gallery visits can be arranged through Marissa McClure Sweeny, associate professor of art education, by emailing Marissa.mcclure@iup.edu. The closing reception for the show will be May 14 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The exhibition marks Squad Art Studio’s fifth year.

Squad offers traditional and digital media process art experiences for children and their caregivers in community-based settings throughout our region. Squad partners with the Artist’s Hand Gallery in downtown Indiana to offer a seasonal series of in-person art experiences facilitated by IUP preservice art educators and art education faculty. More information about Squad is available at Squad Art Studio.

Established in 1977, Keys Montessori School is a child-centered preschool and kindergarten environment in which children have the freedom to choose their work at their own pace using materials that incorporate all their senses.

Kipp Gallery and the Kipp Gallery Annex, located in Sprowls Hall on the IUP campus at 470 South 11th Street, offer a variety of art exhibits throughout the year, including touring exhibits, invitationals, and works by advanced students in the Department of Art and Design.

Street and garage parking is available adjacent to the building.
