Live at IUP: Tucker BeathardSTATIC and the IUP Athletic Department are pleased to announce that rising country music star Tucker Beathard will play a free concert prior to the Hall of Fame football game against Lock Haven on Saturday, September 21, at George P. Miller Stadium on the IUP campus.

The concert, which is free and open to all, is part of IUP Family Weekend and is sponsored by STATIC and IUP Athletics. "We're very excited to announce this Tucker Beathard concert and have him be part of our new IUP gameday experience," said IUP Director of Athletics Todd Garzarelli. "We invite our fans, alumni and student body to enjoy this free concert as we strive to provide a vibrant gameday atmosphere for our home football games. We are also excited about our partnership with STATIC as we focus on experiences for our student population."

In March 2016 Beathard's first single titled "Rock On" peaked at No. 2 on the US Country Airplay charts. That summer, Beathard opened for Dierks Bentley during his Somewhere on a Beach Tour. Beathard is currently touring the US with his Ride On Tour promoting his album titled Nobody's Everything. The album includes singles "Better Than Me" and "Ride On."

The 75-minute concert begins at 2 p.m. in the Stadium Lot South between the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex and Miller Stadium. The Crimson Hawks' Hall of Fame Game kick-off against Lock Haven is set for 4 p.m.

It is recommended for all fans to arrive early.

"This is another great way to make our gameday experience a community and university event, not just a football game," Garzarelli continued. "We cannot wait for everyone to come out and enjoy a free concert and an IUP football win."

Birth of the Cool: A Tribute to Miles Davis

Blue Room, Sutton Hall

The Lively Arts

Enjoy a night of live jazz as members of the IUP Department of Music perform the music from the critically acclaimed compilation album of American jazz great Miles Davis.

Released in 1957, Birth of the Cool compiles eleven tracks recorded by Davis’s nonet for the label over the course of three sessions during 1949 and 1950. Featuring unusual instrumentation and several notable musicians, the music consisted of innovative arrangements influenced by classical music techniques such as polyphony and marked a major development in post-bebop jazz.

As the title suggests, these recordings are considered seminal in the history of cool jazz. Most of them were originally released in the 10-inch 78-rpm format and are all approximately three minutes long.
