Research Appreciation Week promises a busy week of events showcasing the outstanding research done throughout the year by our faculty and students. Among the highlighted events is the IUP Scholars Forum, which offers our undergraduate and graduate students the chance to present their research or performances.

Exhibit: IUP Museum Goes Downtown, From Our Walls to Your Home

painting: Four-ApplesFor the seventh time, the University Museum will present an exhibition at the Artists Hand Gallery, located at 732 Philadelphia Street, Indiana, beginning April 6. The exhibition, “The University Museum at IUP Goes Downtown: From Our Walls to Your Home,” presents art works from the museum’s collection which will be for sale.

The art on display includes a variety of media: prints, paintings, photographs, drawings, and mixed media in various styles ranging from abstract to classic representational. The subject matter of the works on sale ranges from architecture, landscapes, and still life, to figurative, and more.

Painting: Untitled cityscapeThe exhibition will be on view at the gallery from April 6 through April 24, Monday–Saturday 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. with extended hours on Friday, April 9, until 8:00 p.m. for an opening reception beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Health and wellness are at the forefront for most of us! All members of the IUP family are invited to join us in the 2021 IUP Wellness Challenge, April 1–30, 2021.

Everyone who completes the IUP Wellness Challenge will receive a Completion Certificate and the chance to win additional IUP prizes.

  1. Register, and download the Wellness Challenge Calendar.
  2. Start the wellness challenge on Thursday, April 1, completing the activity checklist each day.
  3. Finish the wellness challenge on Friday, April 30.
  4. Share your wellness challenge photos to your favorite social media platforms using #iupwellnesschallenge or email photos to alumni-relations@iup.edu for additional chances to win exciting IUP prizes along the way and to be highlighted on the IUP Alumni Association channels.
  5. Email alumni-relations@iup.edu by May 15, 2021, with a copy of your IUP Wellness Challenge Tracker confirming your challenge completion.

About the Keynote Speaker

Linda Sidor Willett is executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, the largest health insurance company in New Jersey with almost $12 billion in revenue in 2020. She works with the company’s CEO and management team to set strategy and drive business outcomes, including transforming businesses to prosper in the face of health care and tax reform. Willett has led the teams responsible for communications, public affairs, government affairs, legal and regulatory matters, enterprise risk management, and, compliance. The Horizon BCBSNJ Foundation reports to her and focuses on charitable giving in the State of New Jersey. Willett works directly with the company’s board of directors and board committees on all aspects of corporate governance.

As part of Research Appreciation Week, please join the Jones White Writing Center for this virtual workshop! Common types of plagiarism will be discussed to help attendees understand the steps they can take to avoid plagiarism. Areas of focus will include self-plagiarism, paraphrasing versus quoting, and proper in-text references/citations. Attendees will learn about copyright laws and how they relate to theses, dissertations, and other academic publications following an overview of a plagiarism detection product, iThenticate. Zoom link.
