Weyandt Hall, Room 331
Please join the Physics Department for a talk by Dr. Atilla Ozgur Cakmak, a member of CNEU, about a complete undergraduate research to create an ultra-thin absorber.
Dr. Cakmak will
present a case study that is carried out at the nanoscale. He will
start his presentation by introducing the concept of absorbers and their
importance in solar cell applications as well as in optical signal processing. He
will show the steps that were undertaken in order to build an ultra-thin
absorber fully manufactured by undergraduate students over a summer project.
nanoparticle synthesis has been the key component in attaining the ultra-thin
absorber. Atomic layer deposition and sputtering methods have been utilized to
realize the absorbers in the end.
Dr. Cakmak will conclude his talk by
introducing the one-year, non-thesis master’s degree together with the hands-on
intensive, undergraduate summer capstone program at CNEU.
