IUP Student Pop-Up Pantry

Great Room of Elkin Hall

Frederick Douglass Institute

Thanks to the generosity of the IUP family for donating both food and funding, the Fredrick Douglass Institute’s Each One Reach One group will offer the first “pop-up” food pantry for IUP students from noon to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 30, in the Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement’s Great Room in Elkin Hall. To receive food items from the pantry, students are asked to show their I-Card and provide some personal information. The Each One Reach One student group, led by Professor Melanie Hildebrandt, collected items for the food pantry project in November.

“I knew it would go well, but I wasn’t expecting it to be as successful as it ended up being,” said Dani Wade, member of Each One Reach One. “I’m really proud of this because it has made more people aware of food insecurity and it brings us one step closer to getting the food pantry up and running. I think this really shows how IUP students care about each other and will step up and help each other. None of us want to see each other struggle.”

IUP will be working hard in the coming months to establish a food pantry that our students will have access to during the academic year. Stay tuned for more updates and ways to help our efforts as we work to fight food insecurity at IUP.

On Giving Tuesday, nearly $8,700 was raised for the IUP food pantry. Read more about the efforts to create this safety net for IUP students in need.
