The exhibition “Brita d’Agostino: Reconstructing Desires” focuses on the act of cultural consumption by transforming print media targeted towards women into dynamic and semi-abstract collages as installations. Informed by historical art movements and contemporary practice, Brita d’Agostino reimagines the visual language of glamour magazines into hybridized collaged forms created both intentionally and intuitively. This online exhibition is a virtual installation designed specifically for the Kipp Gallery at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Through her process d’Agostino explores the visual design and patterns embedded in a social system of images carefully constructed to elicit desire in consumers. She is deconstructing and recombining surfaces, subverting the original meaning of the images through her own aesthetic investigations. Her playful synthesis of her source material into new forms and presented in a different context offers a fresh perspective of the content for the audience. The end result is a combination of shapes and color that borders on abstraction, yet incorporates elements of contemporary American consumer culture.

Flu Vaccine Clinic

Folger Hall

Human Resources Office

Rite Aid Pharmacy will be on campus to administer flu vaccinations to the IUP community on October 1 and October 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Folger Hall.  A higher flu shot dose is available for those over age 65.

You must wear a mask and practice social distancing upon entering the building and while waiting to receive a flu shot.

Faculty, managers, coaches, OPEIU, and SPFPA employees and their covered dependents ages nine and older enrolled in the Highmark PPO can receive a free flu vaccine by presenting their health insurance ID card at the clinic.

For UPMC HMO members, free flu shots are available at the clinic from Rite Aid or at a Giant Eagle pharmacy by submitting your health insurance ID card. If you choose another pharmacy, you may be required to pay at the time the shot is given and then submit a receipt for reimbursement form to UPMC. Find other pharmacies.

AFSCME, SCUPA, and SEIU employees and their covered dependents ages nine and older enrolled in a PEBTF health plan, both PPOs, and all HMOs can receive a free flu vaccine by presenting their CVS/Caremark prescription drug card (preferred) or their health insurance ID card at the clinic or at any Acme, Giant, Giant Eagle, Target, Weis, Rite Aid, or CVS pharmacy.

Those not covered by a PASSHE or PEBTF health plan could possibly receive a flu shot at the clinic for a vaccination fee.

In an effort to minimize your wait time, you are encouraged to attend the clinic according to the following schedule:

First Letter of Last Name  Recommended Time to Attend the Flu Shot Clinic
A - G
11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
H - M
12:30–1:30 p.m.
N - R
1:30–2:30 p.m.
S - Z
2:30–3:30 p.m.

This is not a mandatory schedule, so if you have a need to go during a different time from where your name falls on the schedule provided, please feel free to do so. This schedule is to try to keep the clinic organized.

If you are planning on attending the clinic here on campus, Rite Aid requires  a screening questionnaire/consent form.

Other Opportunities for Receiving Flu Shots

All Highmark members (who are age nine and older) can obtain a no-cost flu shot at any Rite Aid, CVS, Giant, or Giant Eagle pharmacy in Pennsylvania. No appointment is needed—the member must present their Highmark member ID card or, if a PEBTF member, their CVS/Caremark Rx ID Card.

UPMC HMO members can also obtain a flu shot at any other pharmacy or clinic, but then may submit a claim form with a receipt to UPMC to get reimbursed. Receipts are available upon request from the pharmacy.

Highmark and UPMC members of all ages can obtain a free flu shot from their physician; however, an office visit co-payment may apply.

Upon completion of this workshop, the participants shall improve their leadership skills by being able to:

  • Use experiences and other sources of information to create new insights
  • Recognize one’s capacity to create new understandings from learning activities and dialogue with others
  • Apply previously understood information, concepts, and experiences to a new situation or setting
  • Articulate individual values

We have the great opportunity to bring alum Justin Brown back next week to work with more IUP students as part of his diversity training. Are you ready to join him next week?! On October 14 from 6:00–8:00 p.m., Justin Brown will be hosting UGH!?! Not Another Diversity Presentation via Zoom.

According to Justin (and I think past attendees would agree), this training will shift your paradigms regarding racism, prejudices, stereotypes, women’s issues, differences in gender, inequity, intersectionality, and media. This fully engaging and interactive session is facilitated using games, activities, role-plays, and social experiments that will help challenge and develop the participant’s mind and soul. Nothing is taboo. It pulls no punches and puts anything and everything on the table. Finally, this session will address anyone who desires to experience life through the eyes of others.

The Zoom link and log-in details will be sent the day of the training. Please RSVP for the training if you wish to attend.

Students–please RSVP as soon as possible to reserve their slot. Attendance vouchers are available.

This workshop, geared towards students who are looking to publish, will provide a comprehensive overview to the publication process. The workshop will discuss finding and selecting a target journal, building an argument with data or texts, understanding the concept of contributions to the field, handling peer review, and the submission process. We’ll also explore the difference between writing in coursework and writing for publication.
