where members of the CAE community give non-technical presentations on topics of value to the CAE
community. CAE Forum is about sharing your ideas, knowledge, and expertise to empower and strengthen our
community. It’s that simple. CAE Forum presentations are normally held on the third Wednesday of each
month during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Description: Operating and maintaining a virtual lab environment can be expensive and requires significant resources.
Many organizations and individuals create and share free and open source labs and competitions. In this talk, Chris
Simpson will discuss National University’s adoption and use of these free labs and competitions in their BS and MS
Cybersecurity classes. He will also discuss how they map these labs to meet CAE Knowledge Units and the NICE
Framework KSA’s. The talk will include a hands-on demo of some free environments and build on Chris’ previous talk
from February 2019.

Description: Cyber competitions and events are all the rage but how effective are they at attracting students into cyber
security? This presentation will provide an overview of cyber competitions and camps that have been held over the past
three years at Ferris State University. Topics will include the logistics for handling the events as well as the student
experience and impact on recruiting.
