Celebrating Women and Songwriting — Love Songs for Music Lovers

Highlighting Sessions and Concerts About:

  • women’s engagement in American music, including jazz, pop, spiritual, folk, and classical genres;
  • women’s contributions to world musical cultures;
  • women songwriters and producers of music theater and opera productions, including collaborations with lyricists and other artists;
  • women songwriters and composers collaborating with audiences and engaging communities in educational and health-related settings.

Featuring: FWC resident artist/composer Judith Coe, University of Colorado Denver

Judith Coe is an eclectic singer/songwriter, composer, and keyboardist/synthesist. Dr. Coe founded the Commercial Voice program at CU Denver, serving as director until 2008, and writes and performs across multiple commercial genres. Dr. Coe founded the Signature Singer/Songwriter ensemble at CU Denver, and she teaches in the Commercial Voice and Singer/Songwriter programs, and in the Honors and Leadership Program (a spring seminar on Irish music, peace, politics and popular culture, and a Maymester honors course in Ireland).

Also featuring FWC guest artist/pianist Donna Coleman, University of Melbourne, Australia

Concert pianist Donna Coleman is an IUP alumna with graduate degrees from the University of Michigan and a DMA from Eastman. Dr. Coleman has presented 12 recitals and has recorded numerous compact discs for ABC Classic FM. Her “OutBach” project explores the relationships among the music of Australia, including a recital of music by Australian women composers, European art music, and the African-inspired styles in the Americas.


The mission of the Festival of Women Composers International is to provide gender balance in the curriculum by:

  • generating information about women composers, past and present
  • accessing their works to performers and scholars
  • providing opportunities for public performance
  • showcasing the repertoire of contemporary women composers
